Why Ultimate Arcade Machines?
Hello! I’m Richard, the founder of Ultimate Arcade Machines. Today, I’d like to share my journey into the world of arcade machines and how I ended up running my own arcade machine business.
My passion for gaming began in childhood, where I excelled at arcade games. However, as I grew up and focused on building my career, I set gaming aside for nearly a decade. Despite my busy life, I always yearned for a sit-down 60-in-1 Cocktail Arcade Machine. Every time I spotted one, it stirred up nostalgic memories of spending my pocket money on those classic games.
With limited funds for a brand-new machine, I kept an eye out on platforms like eBay and Gumtree until I finally found a bargain. I met the seller, and upon seeing the machine, I understood why it was so inexpensive. While it functioned, the cabinet was homemade, the wiring was subpar, and the appearance left much to be desired—half stained, half unfinished, and missing a glass cover. Despite its flaws, I decided to buy it and envisioned restoring it, though it ended up sitting for quite some time. I did, however, enjoy playing it with family and friends.
Years passed, and I finally found the time to embark on my restoration project. I sanded, painted, and even had glass cut for the top. As I transformed it into something resembling a professional arcade machine, I discovered how much I loved the process. This inspired me to order a flat-pack lowboy arcade with an upgraded game system, allowing me to build my very first machine from scratch. The result was impressive, and with more games included, I decided to sell my initial project, pocketing a little profit in the process.
My kids soon became enamored with the arcade, but with three of them, the competition for turns became intense! Realising I needed another machine to restore peace in the house, I ordered a four-player arcade online. While it was well-constructed, I felt disappointed by the service and support, not to mention the machine itself.
That experience sparked an idea: What if I could create arcade machines that not only featured a better front-end system and enhanced graphics—thanks to my graphic art degree—but also provided exceptional customer service? What if I could make these machines affordable and include unique features never seen before? What if I could merge the charm of old-school arcades with modern innovations?
And that’s how Ultimate Arcade Machines was born.
